In my first couple classes I have started to learn the basics of coding and understanding coding language. The thing we have emphasized the most is divs, style types, head, and body. These things are commonly seen in code, and kind of break up how things are written out (if that makes sense?). I started to see how these work when making my namecard. In order to make it, I had to find a cool gif and photo to put on the cover. Now that it is done, I realize that coding is pretty simple in the manner that you just have to tell the computer exactly what to do. On the other hand, it seems very difficult to have all the body types memorized and be able to locate a problem, because one little thing can mess a lot up.
Today I have been working on aligning my Journal and other href links on my menu. Daya was helping me and I'm starting to understand how things work better. I also just figured out how the system of a body, div, p, and stuff like that ending through the starting and closing tags. Now I came to write this journal entry on my own without help from Molly or classmates. I'm having fun and I'm looking forward to getting farther into developing my website and being proud of how it looks.
Today I made my first ever animation. I want to actually make my animation with a cutout that I have of myself, but for now what I have is okay. Luca helped me by showing where to put the code into subline. I picked the square and made it move quickly because I think it looks cool with my website. Maybe Ill make a game where it moves somewhere random when you click it and you have to try and get as many clicked as you can.
Today I'm trying to get things finished up because my website needs to look great when Molly sees it. I'm waiting for her help because my animation won't move when you go to it off of the Team page that Molly created. Hopefully it will look great for tomorrow.
This weekend I made a Codesketch program that is themed for thanksgiving. It is a turkey that follows your mouse around the screen. I finally made a real projects page that will have links to my several different projects. The turkey project is linked there now. To make to mouse thing, I used a template I had previously made with a fighter jet. My friend ryan helped me to make a projects page and explained to me the difference between an A tag and an HREF.
I had a great thanksgiving. When we got back molly told us about making this project called a square quilt. I worked on getting the code done and at first I had all my squares blue. When I saw that they were just blue squares, I changed them by turning them in to Acura MDX 2014's. I was inspired because I've been driving a little bit. I made a lab with molly because I want to make it so when you click on one it starts playing a song that says tonka.
Today was a great day. Molly helped me with 2 things. Now I have a fully functioning array project, which mentions the names of things I like when I click. The thing works because it has a listener for 5, and six different variables fill up those different options. When you click, it picks one of those variables to display in the box. I changed the text to be bigger so that the text is super clear. Secondly, I had to change the image that was in my SquareQuilt. In order to do it, I had to put a jpeg file in my folder and then put a image reference in the code. I learned that I needed parentheses inside the quotes.
I've been making strides in learning javascript and working with CSS. Now I understand the idea of creating divs, styling them, and arranging them. Since I've become proficient in those skills, I decided to use javascript more heavily in my car project. In the car project, I used an event listener specific to arrow keys to move a car div. Within the car div I had some trouble with fitting the entire image into the square div, but used a property in the code to make it fit. I'm looking forward to using javascript more!
Today was the last day of computer science. A very sad day. Presenting my final project went well because I decided to add way more detail and extra components. It started with a presentation about why we love compsci. I then decided to add pictures of everyone in class with a cool effect, and change the font on my array project. Lastly, I linked a project that teaches how to make the array project. I hope everyone in class enjoyed it, and I hope people use my tutorial in the future.
